“Let’s jump right into it. How much research do you do for your books?”
A lot! I want to make sure I don’t sound like an idiot. Everyone is a fact checker…
“That they are. And what is your favorite genre?”
Romance with suspense. However, my next adventure will be a thriller.
“Ooh, interesting! Hmm, cats or dogs?”
Ah, I adore all animals. It's impossible for me to choose just one.
“Agreed! Now, what was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?”
That I actually did it all by myself. I had to teach myself every aspect of self-publishing, which was both challenging and empowering.
“It’s an incredible feeling. Does writing energize or exhaust you?”
It's a bit of both. The process can be draining, but the satisfaction of creating something meaningful is incredibly energizing.
“The bane of every author’s existence. How do you handle writer's block?”
When I encounter writer's block, I re-read what I have already written and try to find someone to bounce ideas off of. I also use my three massive whiteboards to lay it all out.
“Clever approach! Now, sweet or savory?”
It depends on my mood.
“Where do you draw inspiration from?”
I draw inspiration from life itself, as well as my insane, overly active imagination.
“Fascinating! How do you handle criticism?”
I take criticism with a grain of salt. It's impossible to please everyone.
“Wise approach. How do you prioritize your tasks?”
I prioritize tasks based on my mood and what I feel most inclined to do at that moment.
“Interesting! What inspired you to write?”
I simply woke up one day and started writing. Surprisingly, within three days, I had already written 100,000 words.
“That's incredible! Now, how important are book reviews to you?”
Book reviews serve as self-esteem boosters, but they can also be detrimental to a good author.
“Understandable. Can you describe your writing routine?”
My writing routine involves waking up, consuming copious amounts of caffeine, and reading the previous five pages I wrote the day before. After that, I dive into the story, tapping away at the keys.
“Sounds like a productive routine! Tacos or burgers?”
Umm, I love food, please don’t make me choose. Let's just say I enjoy them both!
“Fair enough! Me too. Next, what is your favorite motivational phrase?”
To be honest, I really don’t have any.
“And what advice would you give to aspiring writers?”
My advice is simple: Do it! Don't let anyone piss on your parade or discourage you from pursuing your dreams.
“I love that. Lastly, could you share the most rewarding and challenging aspects of self-publishing and how you navigate these challenges?”
The most challenging part of self-publishing has been marketing. As someone who isn't a big social media user, I struggle with utilizing technology to its full potential. However, the most rewarding moment was receiving the very first proof copy of my debut book. The feeling of holding a physical manifestation of my hard work was indescribable.
