Interrogation File: Ajay Howarth

First up, tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m Ajay. I grew up in the land of kangaroos and Vegemite sandwiches. I’m fascinated by human psychology and have an insatiable curiosity. Through my writing, I delve into the forbidden desires of the heart and mind, exploring the depths of passion and unleashing a symphony of emotions. I Like to think I have an exquisite attention to detail and a knack for creating multifaceted characters that readers can effortlessly connect with. My ultimate goal as an author is to craft stories that leave readers satisfied, but still hungry for more, as I take them on an unforgettable journey of pleasure and emotion.

Favourite genre/s to read or write?

When it comes to my favourite genres, spicy romance holds a special place in my heart. The dance between desire and emotion, the intricate web of passion and connection, fuels my creative spirit. I find myself drawn to the intensity and vulnerability that love and lust ignite. I don’t want to just entertain a reader; I want to stir their soul.

Please tell us about your latest work.

My next book comes out on June 4th but decision are still being made. My last release, however, I wrote for fun. A way to expand and practice my craft as an author. Push my limits and test my own boundaries. The Abc’s of S*x is just like s*x. This book is not intended to be consumed all at once. Each story within the collection has its own unique impact on the reader. Some stories will captivate you and leave you wanting more. There are stories that will leave you disappointed. However, there will be stories that truly satisfy your every need. Then there are those stories that you wish would hurry up and finish so you can just go to sleep. But, I’ve catered to everyone. I even have those stories that are very, very quick, too.

Have you ever tried homemade ANZAC biscuits?

My mum makes the best ANZAC biscuits. Still a little chewy. 🤤 As the youngest and only girl with 3 older brothers, they always left me the burnt ones. If I got any at all. Now I care for my parents and we live together so I get first dibs. And ANZAC biscuits mean she has the ingredients to make golden syrup dumplings and custard.

Who is your favourite main character?

Honestly, I don’t really have one. Maybe the MMC, Hunter Reaves, from The Literary Field coming out in June. He’s a little bit of everything.

Would you go on holiday with them?

Yes! So long as we don’t need to fly. I hate flying. And boats make me sea sick. Trains motion sickness. I’d definitely go on a road trip. Maybe a little camping. I love driving nowhere. And by nowhere I mean no plans.

Would you let them pet sit at your house?

Of course! I could see him and I being good friends. If he were real.

Are they someone you’d go shopping with?

No! I’m not a shopping type of girl.

What would they be like at a nightclub?

He’s a total tease. But he only has eyes for one girl. Hangs with the guys watching her from a distance until someone else starts moving in on his territory. And then he takes what he wants with very little effort. She falls for his charm every time.

Are they a series character?

I’m not sure yet. I don’t think so… Maybe, but probably not.

What’s a hobby or skill one of your characters has that you wish you could master?

Again Hunter, he plays paintball. I wish that was something I could master, but running, aiming and shooting while making sure I don’t get shot. I’d be lucky to make it out of the pit without shooting myself in the foot. 🤣

What’s one piece of advice your protagonist would give to readers in real life?

“You’ll be fine, just rub it.”

Have you ever put an Easter egg or hidden reference in one of your books? If so, what’s your favourite?

Not really. Sort of. Love You Always ends with the words I Do Always, which is book two. And book two ends with Forever and Always, which is books three. Book three will end with Love You Always bringing the series full circle.

What’s the weirdest or most surprising place you’ve found inspiration for a story?

All my inspiration has come from real-life experience, music or TV.

What’s the strangest piece of research you’ve done for your writing?

The entirety of The Abc’s of Sex. I’m not sure I can do a part two for those asking.

Have you eaten pavlova?

I love Pav but without kiwi fruit. Although, I don’t know if I’ve ever actually tried it… The fact that it’s hairy and green with all those little seeds. I imagine the texture to be slimy.

If you could collaborate on a book with any author, living or dead, who would it be and what would you write about?

That’s easy. My book bestie, Matt Mememaro. Vampires, Faeries, Dragons, whatever. He can write the fantasy stuff and I’ll add the spice.

I grew up with the term Waikikamukau to denote rural small towns or out of the way places. (Sometimes also described as the wop wops.) What term do you use?

Here in Australia we say woop woop!

Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, or some other type of pet?

I’ve got a German Sheperd, Oscar, he’s an unofficial therapy dog for my kids but there a days I think he needs therapy. I also have a cat or killer ginger ninja as we like to call her. AppleJack for short. We only exist to serve her. Screw it up and you’ll know it.

If your writing space could magically transform into any location, real or fictional, where would you choose to work??

Another easy one. Woop woop! Out in the sticks, back of nowhere with no internet and no distractions
