I am an author who writes how she speaks. I write about things that I know, and which others can relate to. I have three books out; 13 Miles North, Cecil’s Story, and The Rusty Kitten. I have two more in the works. All of my stories are set in the area I live. They touch on love, loss, and being yourself.
“Welcome, readers, to another author interview, this time with the talented Christina Lynne. Can you tell us your favourite 90s or early 00s song?”
Chris LeDoux, Cadillac Cowboy, also most 90s dance music.
“Nice. It's always interesting to see where artists draw their inspiration from. Can you tell us more about where you draw inspiration for your writing?”
My inspiration mostly comes from real-life. I love to write about fictionalized versions of real-life events. I also take inspiration from many of the other independent authors I have had the pleasure of meeting, and the books that I have read by those same authors.
“I like that. And how do you prioritize your tasks?”
I have a full-time job and a husband and a home to take care of. I prioritize by doing the tasks that are needed, and then doing the things that I want to do once there is time. I don’t schedule time to write or work on my socials. I do it as I feel the desire to do so. This keeps the pressure low and keeps writing enjoyable.
“What advice would you give to aspiring writers?”
So many things! First of all, write what you know. Don’t try to please others. Just please yourself. The rest will come. Remember that writing the book is just the beginning. Being an author is also owning a small business. You only get out of your author career what you put into it. If you don’t promote yourself, nobody will do it for you.
“Love this response. So many authors I know are trying to write for the market but that seems like an impossible task as it’s forever changing, What have been the most rewarding and challenging aspects of self-publishing, and how have you navigated these challenges?”
Rewarding - having full control of my book and being able to make changes as I please. Purchasing my books and selling them at events. Having little kids want a picture with me because I am an author.
Meeting other independent authors and learning from them.
Challenging - trying to find a way to keep online sales continual. Trying to figure out out a working marketing strategy
“That's really sweet. What is your writing routine?”
Write when the mood strikes! Review what I have already written and decide if it needs to have more added or to be edited. Add new content. Review, review, review! Many of my stories end up taking unexpected turns during the writing process. I start with a general idea, but very rarely outline anything.
