I am a copywriter and author living on the picturesque Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. With a passion for literature, I eagerly await the release of new books from my favorite authors, indulging in various genres such as romance, drama, mysteries, and thrillers. I write blogs and web pages for a living, which means I can work from home. My favorite way to take a break is to head out on the deck with my German Shepherd or into the yard to play the stick game with my GSD. I also love hiking or just walking through the woods with no trail, just to see what I can see.
“Let's start by discussing your research process. How much research do you typically do for your books?”
It depends. For the Buck Hole Hollow series, I haven't had to do much, as I have first-hand knowledge about most of what is in the book. For the stuff I didn't know, I will do a ton of research.
“Now, in the process of creating your books, what was one of the most surprising things you learned?”
I have written non-fiction since 2007. I was used to getting right to the point. My first try at Adley took forever because I was getting to the point too fast. I wasn't including all the stuff to make a great story. It took me several tries to get past 10,000 words - so I learned writing fiction is a completely different skill than writing non-fiction.
“That's fascinating. And, when you encounter writer's block, how do you overcome it?”
I read! Sometimes it takes me a few pages, other times an entire book to get past the writer’s block.
“That's an excellent strategy. Let's talk about inspiration. Where do you draw inspiration from when crafting your stories?”
Life, other authors, stuff I see around town, stuff on social media, even just walking through the woods.
“It's wonderful how you find inspiration in the world around you. Lastly, how do you handle criticism as an author?”
If it's constructive, I definitely take that into consideration when writing. If not, I figure it's an opinion - and just like arseholes, everyone has one. ;)
“That's a great mindset to have. I love it! Thank you for sharing your insights and advice with us. If you’d like to check out Rhea's work, simply click on the book displayed below. And if you want to stay updated on her journey, you can follow her through the social media links provided.”
