I write fantasy, supernatural and no-fluff romance… all of them on the spicy side of fiction. The abyss, the macabre, and all things dark and twisted fascinate me. I am from the UK, a mother of two and I have been writing since the age of fourteen, however it was only in November 2023 that I allowed anyone to read anything which ended up being my debut self-pub novel! I now have three self-published books with many more to follow!
“Welcome, Raven! Today, we'll get to know Raven a little better by asking her some fun and insightful questions. So, grab a cup of coffee and join us. So, tell us, what time of day do you write the most?”
Thank you for having me! My prime time for writing is in the early hours of the morning (1am-6am) when the rest of the world is asleep as well as sat in my car on my lunch breaks.
“That's fascinating. I, too, prefer to write in the wee hours of the morning or in my car at school pickup. Now, let's move on to a fun question. What is your favorite Wiggles song?”
Even though I am from the UK and my kids are too old to watch them I happened to stumble across a rather funny video while doomscrolling on social media - I’m not sure if it’s the song or the Dominic Field’s dancing (aka the ‘tree of life’) but I now have a soft spot for the “Rattlin’ Bog” song! But shhh… I’m usually a metal-head, so this is totally our secret!
“Haha, that's quite a unique combination! 🤣 I promise not to tell. 👀 Now, let's switch gears and talk about pressing matters. Cake or ice cream?”
Ice-cream! No.. wait, I change my mind cake! I have a huge sweet tooth, so I do actually love both - especially a gooey hot chocolate fudge cake with strong vanilla-flavored ice cream!
“That sounds absolutely delicious! Yum! Now, let's dive into your writing routine. Could you share a bit about how you approach your writing process?”
I’m meant to have one?! Oops… I am a pantser, so I don’t plot any of my stories. I write chapters and scenes completely out of sequence - as soon as the idea comes into my head really, then thread them together like a patchwork quilt. Sometimes, I might make a few notes for a chapter idea before I write it, but that’s more during the threading stage to make the story flow.
“I have a similar approach. It's exciting to discover the story as you go along. Finally, do you have a favorite motivational phrase that keeps you inspired?"
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. - D. Seuss.
“Thank you so much for sharing your insights and experiences with us today. It has been a pleasure getting to know more about your writing process and personal preferences. Thank you.
